Falcons for the Gulf
Experience
We have many years experience in producing
and preparing falcons for our valued clients in the Middle East, we have
supplied many satisfied customers with our top quality hunting falcons.
Whether it be a pure Gyr or one of the many different hybrids that are now
becoming so popular, you can be assured your
falcon will be prepared for the rigors of desert hawking. We would normally
invite prospective customers to come and visit us during the months
of July and August, to select from our current seasons production. We will
either have a selection of falcons sat out on the lawn, to allow for close
inspection or alternatively you could chose a falcon direct from one of our
large "hack" pens.
Specialty
Our specialty is the gyr-peregrine hybrid with around 80 being produced in the 2003 breeding season, we are by far the largest breeder of this hybrid in the UK. We have 7 stud gyr falcons giving semen at the moment from black to white and are using this on up to 20 female peregrines, so the variation of size and colour is superb. Many females have been sent to the Gulf and have proved to be excellent Houbara catching falcons, also some of our very large males have had fantastic success with both kirowan and Houbara.
Preparation
We
have developed a technique in preparing the falcon prior to shipment that
gives you the falconer and also your falcon the best chance of a successful
season. All falcons are of course parent reared until fledging age, at which
point, they will be moved as a group into one of our large 20' high indoor hack
pens. On completing approximately two weeks indoors, where normally they will
have developed their ability to fly with control. They are then moved outdoors
into our 25 and 30 meter diameter, hexagonal hack pens, where they should then develop speed
and control while flying these huge circles.
Once
a bird has been selected and an export
date has been confirmed the falcon will
remain in the "hack" pen until 5 days prior to shipment, at this
point it will be removed and fitted with equipment. We spend the time up
until the falcon is sent, manning the bird and getting it to feed from the
fist. This means that when it comes to the time for transporting the bird , it
should be much calmer. So when you receive it at its final destination,
there shouldn't be a delay in her accepting food from you.
Trying to reduce the stress of transporting at this stage, could be the difference
between you receiving a good healthy falcon or not, so we believe this is
definitely time well spent.
Most
of our falcons are sent via Emirates Airlines, Manchester - Dubai, so we can
have the falcon at the airport in less than one hour from when we leave our
breeding facilities. When needed we will fly falcons out of Heathrow. The
falcons are always supplied with a good fitting hoods, wing and tail guards, and
then all our boxes are padded on the roof and on the back of the door with foam.
Having the falcon arrive to you safe in good feather is a mission for us!
