Introduction
'Falcon
Mews’ is run by Peter Gill and Richard Hill. With over twenty years experience
in raptor propagation, breeding species as diverse as Sparrow hawk to
Gyr
falcon. Both of us are falconers ourselves and although the
time allowed for
flying falcons tends to decrease each hunting
season we endeavor to fly and test
new falcons each year.
During
the 2003 breeding season over 200 falcons were successfully
reared. This number will
increase dramatically over the next
few seasons, but we feel more important than
numbers, is the
quality of the falcons produced at our farm. We here at
Falcon Mews have over the seasons seen dramatic changes in, not only the birds
available to falconry, but also the techniques now being used to produce this
diverse choice. We have been and still are at the forefront of this revolution
and this fact alone shows our continued commitment to the production of falcons,
which meet and maintain the high standards now demanded in world falconry.
We pride ourselves in the fact that we have exported our falcons to over 20 countries worldwide. The experience gained, now allows us to process and prepare documentation quickly and accurately. The demands for birds to be delivered to our clients for the start of their respective seasons, is understood, and we endeavor to work within this criteria. All our customers will demand and receive our personal attention, which we willingly offer, time spent choosing the correct hunting partner will pay dividends for us all in the long run. Your success is our success!
CITES Registered Breeder
We are now one of only two CITES Registered Breeders here in the UK and are the only CITES Registered Breeder in the World for Barbary Falcons.
Apart from the obvious credibility that this status brings to our breeding facility, it also brings many advantages during the applications for export paperwork and in theory should make the whole process go quicker and smoother. This registration is particularly helpful to our Japanese customers allowing them to choose from our CITES Appendix 1 Species as well as our Appendix 2.
We are Registered for Gyr Falcons, Peregrine Falcons and also Barbary Falcons and any Hybrids containing a percentage of these three species, i.e.: Gyr-Barbary's, Gyr-Sakers and Peregrine-Sakers etc. etc.
Facilities

The farm boasts state of the art facilities, with the investment in these facilities being matched to the investment in our breeding stock, something we feel many professional falcon breeders fail to do.
Most of our project is situated indoors with 90% of the pens having solid roofs and concrete floors. This alone allows us to reduce the amount of disease and parasite transference between our breeding stocks to absolute minimum, healthy parents produce healthy chicks.
We
have two large indoor conditioning pens, which are both over 6 meters high and a
third and fourth 24 meter and 30meter diameter outside hack pen which have now been
completed. These pens allow our falcons not only to
exercise those young, developing muscles but also to mentally become stronger
and independent of their parents. Our aim is
to produce falcons that are physically and mentally prepared for their future
life in falconry, we believe our facilities meet this challenge, and we extend
an invitation to any of our prospective customers to visit us and see for
themselves.
A new project for 2004 will be an outdoor viewing area specifically designed for our customers from the Middle East, this will allow us to have up to 50 big falcons sat on blocks for them to choose from at any one time. This area will then be used as a holding area for falcons being prepared for transport or being trained prior to being shipped to our clients. We hope this shows our commitment to competing in a market that is becoming more and more competitive each breeding season.
